The Second Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, formerly known as, founded in 1892 the year of Chongqing "Kuanren Hospital", is a century-old hospital spanning three centuries. After more than a hundred years of development, the hospital has gradually formed its philosophy of "care, focus, and innovation", and is a national tertiary A hospital integrating medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, and preventive healthcare.
The Second Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University has complete departments, with 43 clinical and medical technology departments. Internal Medicine (Infectious Diseases) and Neurology are national key disciplines, while Cardiology, Respiratory Medicine, Nephrology ( (now renamed as Department of Nephrology) ) , Medical Imaging Department (including Radiology, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine), and Infectious Diseases Department are national key clinical specialties. Obstetrics and Gynecology, Laboratory Medicine, General Surgery (including Hepatobiliary Surgery, Gastrointestinal and Anorectal Surgery, Vascular Hernia and Abdominal Wall Surgery, Breast and Thyroid Surgery), Geriatrics (now renamed as Geriatric Medicine), Gastroenterology, and Ophthalmology are Chongqing municipal key clinical specialties. Traditional Chinese Medicine Rehabilitation is a key specialty of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine during the "12th Five-Year Plan", and Traditional Chinese Medicine Spleen and Stomach Diseases is a Chongqing municipal key Traditional Chinese Medicine specialty during the "12th Five-Year Plan". Clinical Medicine, a first-level discipline, is a provincial key discipline, and all its covered 17 second-level disciplines are provincial key disciplines. Medical Imaging, Rehabilitation Medicine and Physiotherapy, Internal Medicine (Infectious Diseases), and Obstetrics and Gynecology are Chongqing municipal key medical disciplines. There are 13 Chongqing Clinical Diagnosis and Treatment Research Centers, 10 Chongqing Medical Quality Control Centers.

There is a Key Laboratory of Molecular Biology for Infectious Diseases of the Ministry of Education, Chongqing Key Laboratory of Ultrasound Molecular Imaging, and Chongqing Engineering Research Center for Reproductive Development and Stem Cell Therapy 3 provincial and ministerial level research platforms. There are Chongqing Infectious Diseases and Geriatrics 2 regional medical clinical research centers, and it is a national clinical trial institution for drugs and medical devices, with 14 groups. It is a national stem cell clinical research institution. In recent years, it has obtained over a hundred vertical scientific research projects of various levels annually, among which National Natural Science Foundation projects exceed 30 items / year, with an annual average of publications SCI papers, nearly 200 articles, and annually wins second prize or above in Chongqing Science and Technology Awards. 2015 year, the research outcome of our hospital's "Basic Research on Ultrasound Molecular Imaging and Therapy" won the First Prize in the Natural Science Series of the Chongqing Science and Technology Award, 2016 year, in the same year, it obtained 3 National Natural Science Foundation key projects, 2017 year, the project "New Strategies and Methods for Curing Hepatitis B", led by our hospital, was approved as a national major scientific and technological special project, with central government funding of 5805.56 million RMB. 2018 year, the key special project "Digital Diagnosis and Treatment Equipment Research and Development" of the National Key Research and Development Program, led by our hospital, was officially approved, with central government funding of 1932 million RMB. The hospital also publishes " Journal of Clinical and Translational Hepatology ", "Chinese Journal of Hepatology", and "Journal of Clinical Ultrasound in Medicine" magazines.
