Ice Maker Common Troubleshooting and Repair Methods

I. Common Troubleshooting and Repair Methods for Ice Makers

1. Symptom: Compressor works but doesn't cool. Cause: Refrigerant leak or two-way solenoid valve damaged and not closing properly.

Repair method: After leak detection, repair leak, then add refrigerant or replace the solenoid valve

2. Symptom: Compressor continuously works and cools, water pump also continuously draws water, ice cubes keep getting thicker, but it never automatically enters the de-icing process to drop ice.

Cause: Water temperature sensor malfunction, preventing the intelligent control system from effectively sensing water temperature and operating correctly, leading to program misjudgment or controller failure.

Repair method: Use a multimeter to measure the resistance of the water temperature sensor (when the water temperature in the water tank is close to 0℃, unplug the three-core wire inside the control box and test the resistance of the two wires on both sides). If the resistance is above 27K, the controller is judged to be faulty and should be replaced. If the resistance is below 27K, disconnect any one of the two wires,

and adjust the resistance to between 27K and 28K by connecting a series resistor.

3. Symptom: Machine enters de-icing program (water pump stops working, compressor stops cooling) but ice cubes do not fall off. Cause: Two-way solenoid valve damaged.

Repair method: Replace the solenoid valve body or the external coil.

4. Symptom: Water shortage light is on but the machine does not automatically replenish water. Cause: No water in the pipes or the water inlet solenoid valve is faulty and the valve does not open.

Repair method: Check the water supply to the pipes. If there's no water, open the water path and restart the machine. If the water inlet solenoid valve is faulty, replace it.

5. Symptom: Compressor works but water pump does not work (no water flow). Cause: Water pump damaged or internal scaling blockage in the water pump.

Repair method: Clean or replace the water pump.

II. Diagnosing Malfunctions Based on Ice Maker Indicator Lights

1. Symptom: Power indicator light flashes rapidly and the machine does not work. Cause: Water temperature sensor circuit open.

Repair method: Open the rear cover, open the electrical control box cover above the compressor, find a three-core connector, check for any detachment or poor contact, and reconnect it.

2. Symptom: Three ice type lights flash in a cycle, and the machine does not work. Cause: Abnormal ice making and de-icing; Repair method: Restart the machine,

3. First, check if the fan and water pump are working normally; if there are any abnormalities, eliminate them first. Then, check if the compressor has started working; if not, check the controller and compressor accessories. If it has started, diagnose the refrigeration system fault and repair it according to the corresponding method.

4. If the refrigeration system is not faulty and can make ice normally, but continuously makes ice without de-icing, the machine will self-diagnose abnormal operation after 90 minutes and perform protective shutdown. You need to use a multimeter to measure the resistance of the water temperature sensor (when the water temperature in the water tank is close to 0 degrees, unplug the three-core wire inside the control box and measure the resistance of the two wires on both sides). If the resistance is above 27K, the controller is judged to be faulty and should be replaced. If the resistance is below 27K, disconnect any one of the two wires and adjust the resistance to between 27K and 28K by connecting a series resistor.

5. Symptom: Ice full light flashes rapidly. Cause: De-icing time exceeds the specified time, and the machine automatically protects itself.

Repair method: In general, restarting the machine should resolve this. If it reoccurs repeatedly, check if the sliding ice plate swings up and down freely.

If the two-way solenoid valve is damaged, this phenomenon will also occur: the machine can cool, but when the ice reaches the set thickness and enters the de-icing state, the water pump stops working and the ice cubes do not fall off. During inspection, use forced de-icing (long press the select button for 3 seconds). If there is no obvious airflow sound inside the ice maker, the two-way solenoid valve can be considered faulty. First, check if the solenoid valve power supply is normal; if normal, replace the coil for testing. It is very rare for the valve body itself to not open.

Symptom: No water in the water tank, no water shortage displayed, loose ice cubes with impurities. Repair: This fault is due to impurities remaining in the water after multiple ice-making cycles, or water rich in minerals, causing scaling on the water level sensor surface, affecting the sensor's detection sensitivity. Drain residual water, clean the inside of the water tank, and clean the sensor surface.

6. Symptom: Water in the water tank, but water shortage is displayed. Repair method: Check if the two-core and three-core connectors inside the control box are reliably connected; re-plugging them usually solves the problem.

7. Symptom: Water flow from the spray pipe is not smooth, and some ice cubes are incomplete. Cause: Spray pipe holes are blocked;

Repair method: While the ice maker is in ice-making water flow state, use tweezers or another sharp object to clear the debris attached to the water outlets on the spray pipe until water flows smoothly from every hole.

8. Symptom: Ice making is normal but de-icing is difficult or does not occur. Cause: Two-way solenoid valve not working or stuck;

Repair method: After starting the ice maker and ice cubes are formed on the ice maker, long press the select button for 3 seconds to enter forced de-icing mode. Touch the solenoid valve; if there is no vibration, it indicates abnormal power supply to the solenoid valve, and the control board and connections should be checked. If there is vibration, de-ice repeatedly several times, which may resolve some solenoid valve sticking issues. If the problem persists, it indicates the solenoid valve is damaged and needs to be replaced.

III. Ice Maker Refrigeration System Not Cooling or Poor Cooling: Diagnosis and Repair Methods

(1) Fault Analysis

1. If the process tube is cut and no refrigerant is discharged, or if there are oil traces visually or by touch at the pipe joints, it can be determined that the refrigeration system is leaking.

2. If the process tube is cut and refrigerant is discharged, it can be determined that the refrigeration system is dirty and blocked.

3. Compressor faulty (high-pressure pipe not exhausting).

4. During the refrigeration process, if there is a significant airflow sound inside the evaporator, it can be determined that the de-icing solenoid valve is leaking gas.

5. Slight leak in the refrigeration system: if the process tube is cut, a small amount of refrigerant is discharged.

(2) Repair methods

1. Re-weld the process pipe and pressurize to check for leaks. Find the leak point and re-weld it, then re-evacuate and refill with refrigerant.

2. Re-weld the process pipe and locate the dirty blockage, usually at the capillary tube inlet. Remove it and refill with refrigerant.

3. Replace the compressor.

4. Force the machine to defrost (press and hold the select button for 3 seconds). During the defrosting process, gently tap the valve body; if caused by small impurities, it can usually be cleared. If not, the valve body needs to be replaced.

5. Re-weld the process pipe and pressurize to check for leaks. Find the leak point and re-weld it, then re-evacuate and refill with refrigerant.

Ice Machine Compressor Loud Noise Fault Analysis

1. Loud internal compressor noise, usually accompanied by abnormal refrigeration. In addition, external factors such as direct sunlight can cause increased compressor load, which can also lead to loud compressor noise.

2. External resonance noise, such as pipe contact, loose metal parts, or uneven placement surface.

3. There is a 'clanking' sound inside the compressor, which can be identified as the compressor retaining ring dislodged (caused by improper transportation).

Ice Machine Compressor Loud Noise Repair Methods

1. After eliminating external causes, if the internal compressor noise is still loud, replace the compressor, then re-evacuate and refill with refrigerant.

2. Eliminate pipe contact and uneven ground issues.

3. Replace with a new compressor.
